George Labeas received his Ph. D. degree from Mechanical and Aeronautics Engineering Department, University of Patras, in 1995. His thesis title was ̏Stress, stability, and vibration analysis of composite plates by semianalytical method̋. From 1993 till 1995 and from 1996 till 1999, Labeas worked on a scientific collaboration at Dornier Luftfahrt A.G. in Friedrischafen, Germany, and a scientific collaboration with the Institute of Structures and Advanced Materials, Patras, Greece, respectively. Professor Labeas served as a Research and Production Engineer at ELVAL S.A. (Hellenic Aluminium Industry) from 1999 till 2003. Since 2003 till now, George Labeas occupies the position of an Associate Professor in Mechanical and Aeronautics Engineering Department, University of Patras, where he delivers lectures on strength of materials (for the students of 3rd and 4th semesters), analysis of aircraft structures (for the students of 7th and 8th semesters), fracture mechanics (for the students of 9th semester), and structural integrity (for the students of 9th and 10th semesters). As for his research activities, they are focused on development of methodologies for stress ̸ strain analysis of light weight structures, by analytical and numerical methods (FEM, TMM), damage analysis of metallic and composite structural aircraft components, numerical simulation of the impact behaviour of aircraft structures under multiside ̸ widespread fatigue damage, stress and failure analysis of ageing aircraft structure, numerical stress and damage analysis of critical structural details, such as bolted joints, bonded joints and repairs, and structural reinforcements, and application of multiscale methodologies. Professor Labeas is the author of more than 60 publications in scientific international journals .
