Yong Seo Cho
Yong Seo Cho was born in Haman, Republic of Korea, in 1956. He studied chemical engineering at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology, where he received his B.E. degree in 1985. He received his M.S. degree (1985–1987) in organic synthesis from the research group of Professor Sunggak Kim at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). After receiving his M.S. degree, he joined the KIST as a Research Scientist (1987). He received his Ph.D. degree (1989–1993) from the same research group at KAIST. He joined Professor L. H. Zalkow at Georgia Tech as a Postdoctoral Fellow (1997–1998). He has worked as a Senior Scientist (1993–1999) and a Principal Research Scientist (1999–present) at the KIST. He has also been a Full Professor at the University of Science and Technology (UST) (2004–present). He was the Head of Biochemicals Research Center (2004–2006). He got several awards such as the UST Professor of the Year Award (2009,2010) and KIST Staff of the Month Award (2009). His research focuses on the development of the brain diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, depression, schizophrenia, and neuropathic pain that are expected to be dramatically increasing in upcoming aging society and the development of new methods for organic synthesis.
