Surya Santoso earned the B.S. degree from Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga, Indonesia, in 1992, and the M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, USA, in 1994 and 1996, respectively, all in electrical engineering. He was a Senior Power Systems and Consulting Engineer with Electrotek Concepts in Knoxville, TN, USA, from 1997 until 2003. He was recruited back at The University of Texas at Austin as an Assistant Professor in 2003 and has been serving as an Associate Professor since 2009. Santoso’s research interest lies in the broad areas of electric power quality and wind power systems. His most significant contributions are in pioneering and advancing the engineering science of root-cause analysis of electric power quality disturbance phenomena, education of electric power quality, and the time-domain modeling and simulation of electromagnetic transients and wind power systems for integration studies. He has published over 25 journal and 55 conference articles in the past 15 years. He has coauthored one of the most authoritative texts in power quality, Electric Power Systems Quality, McGraw Hill Professional Series (ISBN: 007138622X, November 2002, 528 pages) with Roger C. Dugan and Mark F. McGranaghan. He is the sole author of a college textbook on the same subject, Fundamental of Electric Power Quality, CreateSpace (ISBN 144049102X, December 2010, 300 pages). In addition, he has coauthored 2 book chapters in power quality and 2 book chapters in wind power integration with his former students and colleagues in the electric power industry. His publications have been cited over 2,700 times (as of March 2011 as per Google Scholar).
