Michael G. Irwin

Michael G. Irwin is a Professor and the Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, University of Hong Kong, as well as the Honorary Consultant in Anaesthesia and Administrative Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Queen Mary Hospital. Professor Irwin received his Medical degree from the University of Glasgow, UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the President of the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiology, where he is also a Member of the education and examination committees and is chief censor. Professor Irwin has published more than 100 articles in peer- reviewed scientific journals and is a regular invited journal reviewer. In addition, he is on the editorial board of a number of anesthesia and medical journals and a Member of the board of directors of the HKU Medical Faculty Clinical Trials Centre. His research interests include anesthetic pharmacology, acute pain management, and cardiac preconditioning. He is part of the Faculty of 1000 Medicine in the field of cardiovascular medicine in anesthesia: basic science.
