Seanglin Tan is a Full Professor and holds the James Edmund Dodds endowed chair in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University. He served as the Chairman of the department from December 1994 to June 2010. As an internationally recognized infertility expert and a pioneer in the simplification of in vitro fertilization (IVF), Dr. Tan was trained and mentored in London, UK, by Professor Robert Edwards, the inventor of IVF and 2010 Nobel Laureate in Medicine. In 1996 Dr. Tan founded the McGill Reproductive Centre (MRC), serving as its Medical Director until June 2010. He led the team that has produced 10 world or Canadian firsts—including the world’s first air transport IVF and ICSI pregnancies—and is a pioneer in Canada in the use of IVM of human oocytes for the treatment of infertility and vitrification of oocytes to preserve fertility in cancer patients. Work performed by members of the MRC has been published in prestigious scientific journals including Nature, the New England Journal of Medicine, and The Lancet. In August 2010, Dr. Tan founded the Montreal Reproductive Centre, which aims to combine the clinical and scientific excellence achieved at the MRC with the same personalized service provided by Drs. Tan and Edwards at the clinic they founded in London. Dr. Tan has published 12 books and 346 original scientific papers, book chapters, and review articles. He has been on the editorial board of nine medical journals and is a Member of the FIGO and Gynecology Expert Advisory Panels on Reproductive Medicine and Ultrasound and a Fellow of the International Academy on Human Reproduction.
