Adrianus (Jacco) Boon received his M.S. degree in medical biology from the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands and did his graduate training in the laboratory of Professor Dr. Ab Osterhaus and Professor Dr. Guus Rimmelzwaan in the Division of Virology at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands (1997–2003). Between 2003 and 2005, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the same lab continuing his studies on the adaptive immune response to influenza viruses. From 2005 till 2010, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the lab of Dr. Richard Webby at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, USA, determining the role of host genetic polymorphisms on highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza A virus pathogenesis. Currently, Dr. Boon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Miss, USA. The focus of his lab continues to be influenza viruses, including H5N1 influenza virus and the 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus and the complex interaction between the virus and the infected host.
