Pinghai Shao received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Waterloo in 2003. Currently, he is a Research Officer at the National Research Council Canada. His research interest is functional polymers and his work involves studies of sorption and diffusion of small molecules in polymers, polymer/species interactions, interfacial properties of polymers, polymer modifications, and synthesis of polymer/zeolites nanocomposite membranes for gas and liquid separations. His current research is focused on flue gas CO2 mitigation and biomethane upgrading using difussion-controlling polymeric membranes, CO2 emission control by algae conversion, and validation of the superior energy efficiency of membrane processes over the conventional separation technologies. He acted as an Invited Reviewer for the international collaboration membrane research projects sponsored by the Czech Science Foundation, and he has been cited in Marquis Who's Who in the World since 2007.
