Valentin Gutev

Valentin Gutev received the M.S. and the Ph.D. degrees in mathematics (topology) from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1984 and 1989, respectively. He joined the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa, in 1999, and since 2007, he has worked as a Full Professor of mathematics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. From 1997 to 1998, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and in 2000, he was also promoted to a Senior Research Associate II degree in geometry and topology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria. Since 2006, he has held a research rating B1 from the National Research Foundation of South Africa. He was the Chair of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference Topology and Analysis in Applications, Durban, South Africa, in 2004, and a Guest Editor of Topology and its Applications in 2006. Presently, he is a Member of the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences and Questions and Answers in General Topology. His main research area is selections for set-valued mappings and their applications.
