Judit Várkonyi

Judit Várkonyi was born in Bombay (India), in 1954. She received her general M.D. diploma in 1978 and the Ph.D. degree in 2001 from Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. Since 1979, she has been working at the 3rd Department of Internal Medicine, Semmelweis University, presently as Med. Habil. University Docent. She specialized in clinical hematology. Her main scientific interest is in the study of predisposing factors leading to the development of multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and systemic mastocytosis and also in the management of these diseases. She founded the Hungarian Hemochromatosis Patients Association, the Semmelweis Mastocytosis Network and has been nominated by the Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation as the Leader of Center of Excellence at Semmelweis University. The Springer book titled The Myelodysplastic Syndromes edited by her has been lately published.
