Peter E. Goretzki
Peter E. Goretzki was born in Berlin, Germany, and educated in medicine at the medical schools of University Münster, Free University Berlin, and University Heidelberg. He earned the M.D. degree from the University Heidelberg in 1978 and the Ph.D. degree from the University Düsseldorf in 1987. He was awarded the Emmy Heinen Prize in 1986 and the Dr. G. Wille Prize in 1998. He served as a Junior Professor from 1986 until 1994 and as a Permanent Professor in 1994. He earned his Fellowship and his Postdoctoral Fellowship as an Independent Scientist at the University of California San Francisco in 1980-1981 and 1990-1991, respectively. His education revolved around general, visceral, and thoracic surgery at University Marburg, University Mannheim, and University Heidelberg. He worked as a Vice Chairperson of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery, University Düsseldorf, from 1993 to 2001 and as the Chief of Surgery and Chairperson of general, visceral, and thoracic surgery since 2001. He is a Member of many national and international medical societies and president elect for the congress of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Endokrinologie (DGE), in 2013.
