Mariana Santa-Marta has been a staff scientist at URIA, IMM, Faculdade de Farmácia, UL, Portugal, since 2009, working on understanding the underlying mechanisms of HIV-1 latency. From 2007 to 2009, she worked on postdoctoral studies at TSRI, La Jolla, Calif, USA, working on the development of programmable recombinase enzymes for HIV-1 therapy. From 2002 to 2006, she worked on the Ph.D. degree at the Microbiology Faculdade de Farmácia, UL, Portugal, working on the structure/function of HIV-1 Vif protein: molecular and cellular studies. In 2001, she obtained her M.S. degree in biology.
