Jose Nicanor Alonso Alvarez

J. N. Alonso Álvarez was born in Ourense, Spain, in 1964. He received the Mathematics degree and the Economics degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1987 and 1990, respectively. He received the Doctoral degree in mathematics from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1991. His thesis was on a cohomological interpretation of cleft extensions. From 1987 to 1989, he has been in the Econometrics Department at the University of Santiago de Compostela, and since January 1990 he has been in the Mathematics Department at the University of Vigo, Spain. His research interest is in generalizations of Hopf algebras (weak Hopf algebras) and in their applications in noncommutative algebra, category theory, Galois theory, and quantum field theory.
