Masahito Ebina

Masahito Ebina MD, PhD, is Associate Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine and Tohoku University Hospital, Sendai, Japan. He has studied the pathobiology of bronchial asthma, lung cancer, COPD and interstitial pneumonias, especially idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), in addition to clinical researches, and joined as a core member in the clinical trials of pirfenidone of IPF in Japan and the committee for IPF guidelines of ATS/ERS/JRS/ ALAT. He has been a board member of both the Diffuse Pulmonary Disease Research Group, chiefly focusing on interstitial pneumonias including IPF, and the Respiratory Failure Research Group, chiefly focusing on COPD, supported by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japanese Government. Therefore he is in a proper position to emphasize the important disease concept of CPFE, which has been also realized and listed as an atypical type of interstitial pneumonias in Japan since 1991.
