Bechan Sharma, born on June 10, 1960, is presently working as a Professor at the Department of Biochemistry of Allahabad University, India. He completed his higher education including a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry during 1988 from BHU, Varanasi, and the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India. The areas of his current research interest include molecular biology of infectious diseases, tropical diseases, and biochemical toxicology. He has received a number of awards and honors and numerous academic and administrative assignments. He has over twenty three years of teaching and research experience. Dr. Sharma has carried out several research projects and published a number of research papers, book chapters, and molecular methods in different international and national journals, books, and protocols of repute with high impact factors. He has one US patent to his credit. He has supervised seven Ph.D. students and five are continuing research for the doctoral degree under his supervision. He is a Member and a Life Member of several national and international scientific societies and has attended a number of symposia and conferences and presided some of them in India and abroad and presented papers therein. He is an Associate Editor/Member Editorial Board of 25 international and national journals. Dr. Sharma has been acting as an Honorary Reviewer for about 55 international and national scientific journals. He has worked as a visiting scientist in USA for over three years and as a Visiting Professor at different prestigious research institutions at Iran, Italy, France, Thailand, Brazil, and Germany for two to four months to conduct different collaborative research projects related to HIV-1 molecular biology, bioinformatics, and HIV-1 genome structure-based anti-HIV-1 drug design, and so forth. He has recently edited a book on Recent Trends in Biotechnology into two volumes, which has been published by NOVA Publishers Inc., New York, USA.
