Maria Angeles Esteban
Maria Ángeles Esteban is a Full Time Senior Lecturer at the Department of Cell Biology and Histology, Faculty of Biology, University of Murcia. At present, Esteban is with the Fish Immune System Research Group. Esteban has been the Vice Chancellor of Coordination and Communications at the University of Murcia (since 2006). Esteban holds a Doctor in Biology degree (University of Murcia, Spain), with Special Award from the Biology Faculty in 1992. Esteban's expertise include the following: cell biology and histology of shellfish and fish cultured in the Mediterranean Sea; fish immunology as an indication of well-fair; study of new natural substances to achieve fish immunostimulation; determination of the effects caused by pollutants on fish immune status; fish pathology and histopathology; research leader on national projects on mucosal fish immune system. Esteban's main fish species of interest include gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), and sole (Solea senegalensis). Esteban participated in 25 research projects funded by different agencies at regional, national, and international levels and participated in 12 research contracts funded by different private companies in the marine aquaculture sector and environment. Esteban has two patents in the field of seabream aquaculture and more than 100 scientific articles in Journals indexes in the Journal Citation Reports.
