Lluís Palou, a Ph.D. degree, is a Postharvest Pathologist in Pathology Laboratory at the Postharvest Technology Center, Valencian Institute for Agricultural Research (IVIA), Apartat Oficial, Valencia, Spain. From 1999 to 2003, he served as a Postgraduate Researcher at the Department of Pomology, University of California, Kearney Agricultural Center, Parlier, Calif, USA. From1995 to 1999, Palou served as a Doctorate Student in Pathology Unit at the Postharvest Department, UdL-IRTA Center, Lleida, Spain. And he was a 3-month visitor at the Horticultural Crops Researh Laboratory, Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Fresno, Calif, USA. Palou acquired his M.S. degree in agricultural engineering and plant science as specialization field in 1995 (University of Lleida, Spain). Then he received his Ph.D. degree in agricultural engineering with major emphasis on postharvest plant pathology in 2002 (University of Lleida, Spain). Palou's research interests include applied research and extension on technological aspects of fruit handling related to the development of postharvest diseases in fresh fruit of economic value in Valencia area (Eastern Spain) (citrus, stone fruits, table grapes, minor Mediterranean fruits such as persimmon and pomegranate), physical, chemical and biological alternative treatments to conventional fungicides for the control of major postharvest diseases of fresh fruit, integrated disease management, and the effect of antifungal postharvest treatments on fruit quality and storage potential.
