Sergey I. Repin graduated from Leningrad Polytechnical Institute, Russia, in 1976. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in physics and mathematics in 1982 and D.S. degree from St. Petersburg State University, Russia, in 1994. He became a Professor of the Chair of applied mathematics at St. Petersburg State Technical University in 1996, a Leading Research Scientist of Steklov Institute of Mathematics in St. Petersburg in 2000, and a Deputy Director of Steklov Institute of Mathematics in St. Petersburg in 2008. From 1995 to 1996, he was a Fellow of the Royal Society of London. From 2000 to 2008, he worked as a Visiting Researcher and a Visiting Professor at the University of Jyvaskyla and Helsinki University of Technology (Finland), Radon Institute of Computational and Applied Mathematics (Linz, Austria), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and University of Zurich (Switzerland), University of Houston (USA), University of Valenciennes (France), and University of Saarbrucken (Germany).
