Roberto Escudero Derat, born in 1943 in Mexico, is a Full Professor at Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales, UNAM. He graduated from Faculty of Science, UNAM, received M.S. degree in physics from Faculty of Science, UNAM, and D. Phil. degree from University of Waterloo, Canada, in 1984, and conducted postdoctoral studies in physics at the same university. As a prominent scientific figure, Professor Derat received many honours like the W. B. Pearson Medal in Physics, University of Waterloo, Canada, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 1999, Fellowship of the American Physical Society in 2002, Premio en Ciencias Exactas from Universidad Nacional in 2005, Silver Medal Fernando Alba from UNAM in 2006, Emeritus Researcher Award from Sistema Nacional de Investigadores in 2009, and Emeritus Professor Award from UNAM in 2010. Roberto Escudero Derat is the author of 170 papers in refereed journals, which were cited more than 2000 times. Moreover, one of his papers was classified as a citation classic paper by ISI. Besides, Professor Derat serves as a Reviewer in several reputable journals like Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, Revista Mexicana de Física, Journal of Noncrystalline Solids, Material Research Meeting Proceedings, International Journal of Modern Physics B. (World Scientific), Journal of Applied Physics, Materials Today, Philosophical Magazine, ChemComm, Dalton Transactions, Materials Science and Engineering B. (Solid State Materials for Advanced Technology), Applied Physics letters, and Physical Review B. He teaches 19 licenciatura,12 M.S., 10 Ph.D. , and 4 postdoc students. As for his research interests, they are focused on superconductivity, magnetism, and electronic properties of materials at low temperature.
