Miodrag Petkovic

Miodrag Petkovic was born in Malca, Serbia, in 1948. He received his bachelor degree in Computer Science (1972) and Ph.D. in Mathematics (1980) from the University of Nis, Serbia. He is a Full Professor at the University of Nis (Serbia), a position he has held since 1991. M. Petkovic was a Visiting Professor at the University of Oldenburg (1989) and the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg (1992), and a Research Fellow at the universities in Freiburg, New York, Sofia, Oldenburg, Vienna, Kiel, London, Berlin and Tsukuba. He is mainly interested in numerical and interval mathematics and applied complex analysis. His current research is primarily in the area of iterative processes for solving nonlinear and algebraic equations in complex and interval arithmetic. M. Petkovic wrote 225 papers in his subject area for many international journals and 20 books, including three monographs for Springer and Wiley-VCH. He has also authored books and articles on recreational mathematics and chess. M. Petkovic is an Associate Editor of Applied Mathematics and Computation and a member of the Editorial Board of J. Mathematics and Computer Sciences, and Applicable Analysis and Discrete Mathematics. He is a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, GAMM and the Serbian Scientific Society.
