Kalpana P. Padala
Kalpana P. Padala holds M.D. and M.S. degrees and serves as a Staff Physician/Researcher in the VISN 16/CAVHS (GRECC). She received her M.D. degree from the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, India. She completed her residency in family medicine in Family Medicine-Academic Track Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC)/OFFUTT Air Force Base (AFB) Program. She also received her M.S. degree in clinical and translational research at UNMC. Later, she completed a two-year fellowship in geriatrics with Section of Geriatrics, Department of Internal Medicine at UNMC, with one-year dedicated to research. She is board certified in family medicine by The American Board of Family Medicine and with an additional certification in geriatric medicine. She serves as a Member of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), American Medical Directors Association (AMDA), and The Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART). Several awards recognize her academic accomplishments. Some of the awards pertinent to her research include the American Geriatrics Society/ Merck 2011 New Investigator Award, 2011 Kinman-Oldfield’s Alzheimer’s, Research Scholarship Fund Award by the Vada-Kinman, Oldfield Foundation, and 2009 New Investigator Research Grant (NIRG) by the Alzheimer’s Association. Her research interests include balance and gait problems in elderly, especially in population with Alzheimer’s dementia and prevention of falls in elderly. Her main focus is to use everyday technology to improve gait and balance in elderly and, in turn, prevent falls.
