CURRICULUM VITAE Dr. Giuseppe Ruberto Born in Catania, July 4th, 1955 1979: degree in Chemistry cum magna laude, University of Catania; 1983-today: researcher, Istituto del CNR per lo Studio delle Sostanze Naturali di Interesse Alimentare e Chimico Farmaceutico (ISSN), now Istituto del CNR di Chimica Biomolecolare (ICB); 1984-1985: research associate, Centro del CNR di Studio delle Sostanze Naturali, Milan; 1987-1988: research associate, Chemistry Department, Columbia University, New York, USA; 2001-today: first researcher responsible for “Natural Substances and Food Chemistry” Dept. of ICB – Catania; 2004-today: teaching responsible for Chemistry of Natural Products and Food Chemistry courses in Magistralis Degree Course in Biomolecular Chemistry, University of Catania. His research activity has developed, prevalently, in the field of the Chemistry of Natural Substances, and he has supervised many aspects of this important sector, such as isolation, structural determinations, the biological importance of the studied substances, as well as their potential applications in the pharmaceutical and agro-alimentary fields. Furthermore, he has been concerned with Food Chemistry, studying the application of new natural antioxidants and the composition, applicative and taxonomic implications of essential oils from aromatic plants. The above work also involves the collaboration with various national and foreign research groups. He is a member of the Italian Chemistry Society and the American Chemical Society. He is a “referee” for a number of important international journals: Journal of Natural Products, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Flavour and Fragrance Journal. Author of about 95 referred papers on international journals.
