Staffan B. Skerfving

Staffan B. Skerfving was born in Malmö, Sweden, in 1940. He received his M.D. degree, 1965 and his Ph.D. degree, 1972, both from the Karolinska institute, Stockholm, Sweden. Since 1972, he has been active at the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, University Hospital, Lund, Sweden as a Senior Consultant, since 1980 also as Professor. He retired from his professorship in 2005 and is now a Professor Emeritus. He has published scientific papers mainly on metal toxicology, environmental cancer, environmental respiratory diseases, and occupational musculoskeletal disorders. The main scope of most of the papers has been related to risk assessment, including hazard identification, dose-response assessment, development of methods for exposure and effect assessments, risk characterization, and risk control, as well as mechanistic studies. The work has mostly been epidemiological, but has also included experimental work in humans and animals.
