Geoffrey D. Taylor received his B.S. dgree from the University of Regina, his M.D. degree from the University of Saskatchewan, F.R.C.P.(C) degree internal medicine, Certificate of Special Competence in Infectious Diseases (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada), as well as F.A.C.P. degree. He is currently a Professor of Medicine and Medical Microbiology, Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases, University of Alberta, and Director of Infection Control Unit, University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, Canada. He is a Member in Public Health Agency of Canada Infection Control Guidelines Committee, and Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program (CNISP); Health Canada Pandemic influenza Committee working group on antiviral agents; as well as Alberta Health and Wellness Communicable Diseases Advisory Committee. His major administrative and academic roles have been in the field of healthcare acquired (nosocomial) infections (HAIs). Together with his colleagues, he conducts surveillance at the local and national level for the occurrence of HAI (e.g., MRSA, VRE, central catheter-related blood stream infections, surgical site infections, influenza in hospitalized patients, Clostridium difficile, etc.). These surveillance studies are used to inform policies and practices at the local, hospital, as well nationally levels. Clinically, HIV/AIDS has been a long standing interest for him. In the last 5 years, he has participated as a trainer in the IDSA AIDS Training Program (ATP), teaching HIV therapeutics and clinical management to African doctors at the Infectious Diseases Institute Kampala Uganda.
