Carl J. Carrano

Carl J. Carrano obtained his undergraduate degree in chemistry at UCSB, Santa Barbara, Calif, USA, in 1972, and his Ph.D. degree in 1976 at Texas A&M University, Canyon, Tex, USA. After a postdoctoral stint (1977–1979) with K.N. Raymond at UC Berkeley, Carrano was appointed as an Assistant and then Associate Professor at the University of Vermont (1979–1987) before moving to Texas State University as Chair (1988–2002). Since 2003 he serves as a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at San Diego State University, where his research interests span the uses of X-ray crystallography: from bioinorganic chemistry, to coordination polymers to the undergraduate curriculum.
