S. Komarneni is a Distinguished Professor of Clay Mineralogy in the Materials Research Institute and the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Komarneni earned his B.S. degree from A.P. Agricultural University, an M.S. degree from The Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, and a Ph.D. degree from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses on crystal chemistry and ion exchange of clays, zeolites and other materials for remediation of contaminated soils and water, low temperature nanophase and nanocomposite materials, sol-gel chemistry of high-performance ceramics, hydrothermal and microwave-hydrothermal processing, and new materials preparation and characterization. He has been serving as the Editor-in-Chief of J. Porous Materials since 1994. He has published more than 465 refereed papers, received 10 patents, and edited/written 13 books. He has received numerous awards such as election to the European Academy of Sciences (2002) and World Academy of Ceramics (2004) and election as a Fellow to 5 societies including the Royal Society of Chemistry (2002), the American Ceramic Society (1993), and Soil Science Society of America (1994). Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) has recognized him as one of the Highly Cited Researchers in the Materials field.
