Elpida Keravnou is a Professor of computer science at the University of Cyprus. In January 2012, she will take up the post of the first Rector of the Cyprus University of Technology, when the university acquires its autonomy. Previously, Keravnou served as the Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Cyprus University of Technology (2009–2010) and as a Vice-Rector for the Academic Affairs of the University of Cyprus (2002–2006). Before that, she was the Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences and the first Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science. She received a B.A. degree in computer science from Brunel University, UK (1982) and a Ph.D. degree in cybernetics from the same University (1985). Keravnou taught in the Department of Computer Science of University College London (Lecturer [1985–1991] and Senior Lecturer [1991–1992]). She is an Associate Editor of the scientific journal Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (Elsevier) and a Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal Systems Research and Information Science (Gordon and Breach). Keravnou has carried out research in the areas of knowledge engineering, expert systems, deep knowledge models, diagnostic reasoning, temporal reasoning, artificial intelligence in medicine, and hybrid decision support systems. During the period between 2003 and 2005, she served as the Chairperson of the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Europe (AIME) Board.
