Piero Macchi received the M.S. degree (1994) and the Ph.D. degree (1999) from the University of Milan, Milan, Italy, and the Habilitation (2009) in chemical crystallography from the University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland, where has been serving as a Docent at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry since 2009. He has been worked from 2002 to 2008 as a Researcher and an Aggregate Professor at the Structural Chemistry Department, University of Milan. He has been the Treasurer of the Italian Crystallographic Association (from 2009 to 2011), the Treasurer of the Swiss Crystallographic Association (since 2011), and a Member of the Member of the Charge Spin and Momentum Density Commission of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) (since 2011). His main areas of interest include low temperature crystallography, solid state phase transitions, charge density studies and software developments, transition metal chemistry, ab-initio theoretical calculations, hydrogen bonding, high pressure crystallography, and polarizing microscopy.
