Gerasimos Filippatos heads the Heart Failure Unit at Athens University Hospital, Greece. He studied at the University of Patras, Greece, and earned his Ph.D. degree in physiology and critical care from the University of Athens. He subsequently completed his clinical training in internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, heart failure, and transplantation in Athens; Chicago, USA; and Cambridge, UK. Dr. Filippatos is the Chair of both the Clinical Section and the Committee on Acute Heart Failure of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He has served as the Chair of the ESC’s Working Group on Acute Cardiac Care and is a Member of the Society’s Congress Programme and Practice Guidelines Committees. He is also the International Governor of the American College of Chest Physicians. Professor Filippatos is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Cardiology, Archives of Medical Science, and Acute Cardiac Care. He is a reviewer, a guest editor, and a member of the editorial boards for major cardiology and critical care journals. He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored more than 30 book chapters, and has edited 5 books.
