Eric Klann

Eric Klann received his Ph.D. degree in 1989 from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va, USA, where he studied the regulation of nuclear matrix proteins. He then began investigating the signal transduction cascades that underlie synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus as a Postdoctoral Fellow in David Sweatt's laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Tex, USA. In 1994, he joined the faculty of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa, USA. In 2001, Klann joined the faculty of the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Baylor College of Medicine. He moved his laboratory to New York University, NY, USA, in 2006, where he currently is a Professor of neural science and biology. His primary research interest is in the biochemical and molecular signalling mechanisms involved in synaptic plasticity and memory in the hippocampus, with a particular emphasis on redox signalling and the biochemical regulation of translation, and how these mechanisms go awry in mental retardation, aging, and Alzheimer's disease.
