Douglas C. Bittel

Douglas C. Bittel holds a Ph.D. degree and serves as an Associate Professor in the Section of Genetics Research within the Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo, USA. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and did post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Minnesota and the University of Kansas, Medical Center. The focus of his research is the application of molecular genetic, epigenetic, and genomic tools to the study of developmental disorders. His current projects include characterization of gene expression, gene splicing, genome structure, and epigenetic modifications which contribute to congenital heart defects. The project is a collaborative effort with the section of Cardiac Surgery at Children’s Mercy Hospital. In addition, he collaborates with members of the sections of endocrinology and neurology to study genetic factors that contribute to complex endocrine and neurological developmental disorders.
