Neil Huth was born in Collinsville, Australia, in 1969. He completed a B.S. degree in applied science and Postgraduate Diploma in information technology at the University of Southern Queensland, Queensland, Australia, in 1989 and 1990, respectively. In 2011 he completed his Ph.D. degree in biological science from the University of Queensland on “Measuring, modelling, and managing tradeoffs in low-rainfall agroforestry for Australia’s subtropics”. Since 1991, Huth has worked for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) on modelling production systems in Australia and overseas. His current interests include modern software techniques for scientific software development, electromagnetic methods for monitoring soil water in farmers’ fields, models of carbon and nutrient dynamics, and tradeoffs between various costs and benefits in agricultural systems.
