Omar J. Shah

Omar J. Shah was born in Srinagar, Kashmir, India, in 1959. He received the B.S. degree in medicine in 1982 from the University of Kashmir. He did his M.S. degree of surgery at University of Sher-I Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar in the year 1988. From 1992 to 2005, he worked as Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Additional Professor in the Department of Surgery at SKIMS. In 2005, he took order as Professor and Chairman Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at SKIMS. His main focus has been on various problems related to hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases. His contribution on biliary ascariasis and portal hypertension has received international recognition which is cited in ‘Harrison’s Text Book of Medicine and Mastery of Surgery, respectively. He is a member of the Executive Council of IHPBA-India and has published more than 70 research papers in various international journals.
