Pietro Cortelli was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1954. He received his degree in “Medicina e Chirurgia” (cum laude) from the Alma Mater Studiorum, Universitá di Bologna, Italy, where he obtained his residency training at the Clinica Neurologica; he is board-certified in neurology and he obtained his Ph.D. degree in neurological sciences from the University of Verona, Italy. Presently, he is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Alma Mater Studiorum, Universitá di Bologna, Italy. He has authored more than 250 articles and reviews that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals with high impact factor. He is on the Editorial Board of Clinical Autonomic Research and Neurological Sciences. He is the President of the European Federation of Autonomic Societies, and a Founding Member of the Italian Neurological Association for Headache Research (Associazione Neurologica Italiana per la Ricerca sulle Cefalee, ANIRCEF). His current research interests include autonomic, clinical, neurophysiological, functional imaging evaluation of primary headache, and the role of the function/dysfunction of autonomic nervous system in health and disease.
