Jorge B. Cannata-Andía
Jorge B. Cannata-Andía is the Head of the Bone and Mineral Research Unit, Instituto Reina Sofia de Investigación (REDinREN, ISCIII) and a Full Professor of medicine at the Universidad de Oviedo, Spain. His research findings on the field of bone metabolic disorders and vascular calcifications have contributed to medical literature with more than 400 publications in journals and books. He has been a Principal Investigator of 33 official research projects of the Ministry of Health and Science in Spain and the European Union. At present, he is running 2 international projects: COSMOS Study (Europe) and CORES Study (South America). He is on the editorial boards of many of the most recognized journals in his field, and he acts as a referee for many national and international journals in the area of nephrology and mineral disorders. Moreover, he is member and honorary member of several national and international societies. He is a Member of several scientific international Advisory Boards in nephrology and bone and mineral research, including the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), Committee of Scientific Advisors, and the Spanish responsible in the European Union—International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) Consultation Panel. In addition, he has been the President of the European Renal Association/European Dialysis and Transplant Association, ERA-EDTA (2005–2008), the Secretary-Treasurer of the ERA-EDTA (2002–2005), the President of the Spanish Society for Bone and Mineral Metabolism (1991–1995), and the Treasurer of the Spanish Society of Nephrology (1987–1993). He received 31 awards, 2 of them for his scientific career and the International Medal of the National Kidney Foundation for his contributions to the field of nephrology.
