Jose M. Requena

Jose M. Requena was born in Tragacete, Spain, in 1962. In 1990, he obtained his Ph.D. degree in molecular biology from the Universidad Autó noma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain, where in 1998 he was appointed Research Associate Professor in biochemistry and molecular biology, teaching primarily in the areas of biochemistry, microbiology, and parasitology. During his graduate work, he became interested in molecular biology aspects of Trypanosoma cruzi and related trypanosomatids. Since then, Requena has been working in the field of parasitology, choosing Leishmania as model organism for studying different aspects of the host-parasite interactions (gene expression, diagnosis, immunology, and prophylaxis). In 2003, he served as Group Leader at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (Madrid), where currently he carries out his research activity. Dr. Requena has coauthored one hundred research papers.
