Ricardo Perera received an Engineering Degree (1991) and a Ph.D. degree in engineering (1995) from the Madrid Technical University (Universidad Polité cnica de Madrid). His professional activities have been carried out in the fields of teaching and research as well as in the development of projects and construction work. Currently, he serves as a Full Professor at the Madrid University School of Industrial Engineering where he serves also as the Chairman of the Department of Structural Engineering. He has authored four books in Spanish, and he continues to contribute actively to national and international journals, for several of which he acts also as a referee. His publications deal primarily with structural health monitoring, applied mathematical modelling, seismic engineering and structural dynamics, behavioural laws of solids, and structural retrofitting, especially with FRP composites, on which he has published numerous papers in the most ranked journals. He has also contributed to numerous conferences, both international and national. So far in his career, he has directed six doctoral theses and numerous masters theses and has produced various projects for construction works. He has been the supervisor of several national research projects involving different research centers and has participated in research projects financially supported by the European Union.
