Dirk Lummerzheim is Professor Emeritus at the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, Alaska, USA since 2010. From 2001 to 2010, he is Research Professor at the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska. From 1994 to 2001, he is Associate Research Professor at the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Physics, University of Alaska in 1987. His area of expertise includes aeronomy and auroral physics; Lummerzheim has extensive experience with auroral electron and proton transport modeling, local and global ionospheric modeling, and interpretation of auroral observations from space-based and ground-based instrumentation.
