Sergio Crovella serves as a Professor of genetics at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) PE, Brazil, Head of the Laboratory of Immunopathology Keizo Asami (LIKA), and Senior Research Scientist of the National Research Council (CNPq) of Brazil. He received his Ph.D. degree on molecular anthropology from Università degli Studi di Firenze, Florence, Italy and completed postdoc in molecular anthropology at Université Louis Pasteur de Strasbourg, Alsace, France and research experience on molecular evolution of primates in Africa (Costa de Marfim, Madagascar) and Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia). Dr. Crovella specializes in molecular diagnosis, molecular evolution, immunogenetics of multifactorial diseases, and susceptibility to HIV/AIDS. He also works as the head of the section of the pharmacogenetics of HIV/AIDS. He serves on various grant review committees including CNPq and Brazilian state agencies.
