Mario H. Hirata

Mario H. Hirata graduated in pharmacy and biochemistry from the School of Pharmacy and Dentistry of Alfenas, today Alfenas University (1977). He obtained the M.A. degree in pharmacy (1983) and the Ph.D. degree in food sciences (1985), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo. He works as a Full professor at Department of Clinical and Toxicological Analysis of FCF-USP, in 1990. He has done postdoctoral internships at the Center for Biological Evaluation and Research, Food and Drug Administration (FDA, 1992-1994), USA. He was serving as a Visiting Professor at the Kyoto University in 1999, as a Visiting Professor at USUHS, USA, in 2001, 2005, 2006, and 2008, as a Visiting Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2007, and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois in 2009. He is currently serving as a Professor at the Department of Clinical and Toxicological Analysis, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo, since 2005. He has experience in pharmacy with emphasis in clinical biochemistry, acting on the following subjects: genotyping, genetic polymorphism, PCR, PCR-RFLP, real-time PCR, atherosclerosis, infection and atheroma, lipoprotein metabolism, microarray, transcriptome, proteomics, pharmacogenomics, human identification, and resistance and bacterial virulence, specifically in mycobacteria.
