Abbes Belkhiri obtained his Ph.D. degree in microbiology from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, Canada, in 1995. He is currently holding a faculty position of Assistant Professor at the Department of Surgery, Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His research in cancer biology involves studying mechanisms of resistance to anticancer drugs, and tumorigenesis in breast and upper gastrointestinal cancers. He has identified novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets based on gene amplification and differential expression in primary tumors. In addition, his work included preclinical functional validation of cancer targets in vitro and in vivo using cell-based assays and animal disease models.
