W. M. Tilakaratne
W. M. Tilakaratne was qualified with BDS degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He obtained his M.S. degree from the University of Colombo. Then, he proceeded to the UK for further studies at the Guy’s Hospital London and obtained FDSRCS and FRCPath degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons and Pathologists, respectively. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree from the University of Niigata, Japan. He is the Professor of oral pathology at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and also at Queen Mary University of London. In addition, he serves as the Councilor for Asia at the International Association of Oral Pathologists. His main research interests are oral cancer and precancer. He leads a multinational research group working on oral submucous fibrosis, the commonest oral precancer in South Asia. He serves in several pathology-related journals either as an associate editor or a member of the editorial board.
