Tadashi Kifune received a Ph.D. degree in 1970 from the University of Tokyo; the title of the thesis was “Search for quarks.” He worked in the field of X-ray astronomy during 1972 and 1974 in Columbia University, USA. He also worked for cosmic ray physics in Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. His field of interests include extensive air showers, proton decay/neutrino detection in Kamiokande, and TeV gamma ray astronomy in CANGAROO group. Kifune was a Professor Emeritus (University of Tokyo) in 2001.
