Fabio Pichierri received a "Laurea" degree in chemistry (1992) and a Ph.D. degree in chemical sciences (1996) from the University of Trieste, Trieste, Italy. At the end of his university studies, he moved to Japan where he began his research activity in the field of computational quantum chemistry applied to bioscience and engineering. In 2003 he joined Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, where he is now an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering. His research interests are rather wide covering ion recognition, molecular and materials design, molecular energy storage, atomic-scale engineering, molecular structure, and the interplay between the electronic structure of proteins and biological function.
