Francesco G. B. De Natale

Francesco G. B. De Natale received the Laurea degree in electronic engineering in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunications in 1994, both from the University of Genova, Italy. After some years spent at the University of Cagliari as an Assistant Professor, he joined the University of Trento, Italy, where he presently holds a Full Professorship in telecommunications. In Trento, he coordinates the B.S. and M.S. courses in telecommunications, and is Deputy Head of the Department of ICT. He is also part of the Board of Directors of the National Consortium of Telecommunications (CNIT). The research interests of Professor De Natale are focused on image and signal processing, with particular attention to multimedia data compression, processing, and transmission. In this context, he leads the research activities of the Multimedia Communications Lab. He was General Cochair of the Packet Video Workshop in 2000 and Technical Program Cochair of the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing to be held in 2005. In 1998, he was corecipient of the IEEE Chester-Sall Best Paper Award. He is also referee for several international journals in the field of signal processing and telecommunications, as well as Evaluator for the European Commission. Professor De Natale is a Senior Member of IEEE.
