Christer Sundstrom received the M.D. (1971) and the Ph.D. (1977) degrees with a Ph.D. degree thesis titled "Biology of human malignant lymphomas in vitro: characterization of biopsy cells and established cell lines." Sundstrom is a Professor of hematopathology (2000). He was a Senior Registrar in pathology (1976-1979), Consultant in pathology (1979-1994), Head of the Section of Hematopathology (1990-), and Clinical Director, Department of Pathology, University Hospital, Uppsala (1994-2008). He received postgraduate scholarships from Lymphknotenregister bei der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Pathologie, Kiel, Germany (1978) (Head: Professor Karl Lennert) and from the Medical Research Council Leukemia Unit, London, UK (1979) (Head: Professor Daniel Catovsky). He published more than 200 original articles in peer-reviewed international journals, mainly within the area of leukemia and lymphoma research.
