Antonio Piñero was born in Albacete, Spain, in 1968. He obtained his M.D. degree (School of Medicine, University of Murcia, Spain) in 1992 and the Ph.D. degree (qualification cum laude) in 1998. He was a Resident in general surgery from 1992 to 1997 at the Department of Surgery of the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital, Murcia, Spain where he is a Staff currently. He also obtained an M.S. degree in senology (2005, Autonomous University of Madrid and Foundation for Studies of the Breast (FEMA)). Since 2001, Dr. Piñero has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery of the School of Medicine (University of Murcia). He developed the organization and coordination of the Spanish Consensus Meeting for Sentinel Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer (Murcia, November 2006). Presently, he is the President of the Ethical Committee for Research of the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital. Moreover, he is a Reviewer at several scientific publications such as Cirugía Española, Revista de Senología y Patología Mamaria, The breast, Clinical and Translational Oncology, and a Member of the Editorial Board of the journal Revista de Senología y Patología Mamaria, Member of the International Editorial Board of the Journal of Breast Health, and of the Chinese Journal of Clinicians. Dr. Piñero is also the author and coauthor of more than 120 publications and several chapters of books and more than 150 communications to national and international congresses and meetings. He has experience in digestive and endocrine surgery, and currently he is especially dedicated to oncologic surgery (breast cancer and melanoma).
