Born (1951) in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and I live in Tarragona, 100 km southwest Barcelona. I speak catalan, spanish, french, english and some italian. B.Sc. Biology (1973) and PhD Biology (1987) for University of Barcelona.
I worked as R+D technician of microbiology and biochemistry in food industries (1973-1983). I got an academic position at University of Barcelona (1983) and then (1992) as Associate Professor in Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona. There I became Full Professor (2010) of the same URV and now I am Emeritus Professor.
As academic responsabilities, I have been Director of Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at URV (1995-2000), Coordinator of B.Sc. Biotechnology of URV (2005-2008) and Dean of Faculty of Oenology of Tarragona, the same URV (2008-2011).
My expertise areas are: Industrial biochemistry and microbiology; Oenology; Food Biotechnology; Lactic acid bacteria and malolactic fermentation; Application of molecular techniques for identification and characterization of lactic acid bacteria of biotechnological interest; and some Environmental Biotechnology: biorecovery of heavy metals, biodegradation of phenolic compounds, biodessulfurization.
I have been director of 9 PhD theses. My scientific output is near 50 publications in international journals and book chapters. My CV ratio has a 10 H index with total accumulated citations of near 400.
