Professor Vikram Kate, a holder of both the M.S. and the Ph.D. degrees, is a Professor at the Department of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, India. Professor Kate is presently working as a Senior Consultant Surgeon and Professor of general and gastrointestinal surgery at JIPMER, a premier institute of tertiary level care in India. The nature of his work is clinical, academic, and research oriented. Professor Kate was awarded the Ph.D. degree in surgical gastroenterology for his pioneering doctoral work on Helicobacter pylori and its correlation with perforated duodenal ulcer. He has several chapters and papers to his credit in the field of gastroenterology, especially Helicobacter pylori infection. He has also won several awards for his papers and work. Professor Kate is on the editorial board and is a peer reviewer for many international journals. He is a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, and Glasgow (FRCS Eng, Ed, Glasg). He is a recipient of prestigious American fellowships and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), and a Member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (MASCRS).
