Maurizio Longinotti was borne in Predazzo, Trento, Italy, in 1943. He receveid the Ph.D. degree (summa cum laude) from Sassari University in 1968. He was a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Health, Rome, Italy, and at Genoa University. Presently, he is a Professor of Hematology at Sassari University and the Head of the Hematology Institute, Center for Autologous Stem Cell Transplantion (ASCT). Until recently, he was mainly interested in molecular characterization of thalassemia syndromes and hemoglobinopathies. Currently, he is interested in molecular bases of, and variations in, the T-cell receptor genes.
