Markus Kirkilionis holds a Ph.D. degree in biomathematics at the University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany. He works at the Mathematics Institute, University of Warwick, Coventry, UK. His interests lie in applied mathematics, complex systems, mathematical biology, and mathematical modelling. In 2009, he was the Conference Chair ECCS’09, European Conference of Complex Systems, about 600 participants. Since 2002, he works as an Associate Professor at the Warwick Mathematics Institute, University of Warwick, UK. He held several research positions such as at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) of the University of Heidelberg, at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, and at the University of Warwick, UK.
